closet shelf installation

marietta, ga

No home in Marietta Georgia is complete without plenty of spaces to hide your storage, right?

Not only is it important to have good, efficient closet spaces, it is also necessary to have proper and safe installations to withstand the weight of your possessions. Whether it is space to store food storage, holiday decorations, less frequently used items, or even clothes, you must be well educated on the best way to install shelving systems and closets.

BENEFITS OF PROFESSIONAL CLOSET INSTALLATION

Walls are made of different kinds of materials. There are slightly different ways to attach shelves based on the various surfaces. Nowadays, most homes in Marietta, Georgia have drywall. Walls may also be made of masonry (brick) or concrete. The surfaces of the wall and the weight the shelving planks can hold,  determine which type of anchors need to be used. Another challenge when it comes to installation is the fact that walls are never even or square. This means that there could be quarter to half inch variance on the surface of the wall. When it comes to installing closet shelves, you must keep this in mind so that appropriate measurements are made. It is also important to know how to work with these complications to best install usable and sturdy closet shelves. A professional will be able to accommodate for unsquare walls and for the different anchors, drills, and materials that is not cut properly.

WHAT ARE CLOSET SHELVES MADE OF?

When you have shelves in open space or kitchen, you might prefer something tasteful and looks good . Closet shelves are a different story because they are used to hide away storage. Because of this, strong, sturdy materials are preferred. Closet shelves are commonly made of wire racks, plywood or solid wood such as cedar or pine. Wire racks are cheap and quick, but wooden shelves are most suggested for closet shelves. Softwood is the most recommended wood to have because it is lightweight and easy to work with.

Plywood

Plywood is a manufactured wood. It is fairly inexpensive. It is laminated in layers, called veneers, for stability. Because of this, plywood doesn’t sag overtime with heavy things placed on top.

Shelves should be ½ inch to ¾ inch depending on how much weight you want on them.

Softwood

Softwood includes pine, cedar, spruce, redwood, and douglas fir. The most common softwood used for shelves is pine wood. Like Plywood,  pine is also pretty inexpensive and durable as well. Pine boards come in smaller planks, so for larger boards they would be laminated together edge by edge. Pine has a very rustic look and is naturally beautiful and smooth. Although sturdy, pine shelves may wear down over time.

Wire Racks

Wire closet shelves are the most cost-effective and least time consuming to put together. Wire racks usually come in pre-made systems. Whereas closets with wooden shelves can be professionally designed and custom made. Wire racks make a perfect closet system if you are looking to sell your house soon and want all the little things done. If funds are limited, wire closet shelves would be very appropriate for a playroom or children’s closet.
